Asian Sensation | Honolulu Academy of Arts 2008 Summer Shows

Three exhibitions of contemporary art, two film festivals, lectures by acclaimed art scholars
and a special ARTafterDARK make the Honolulu Academy of Arts this summer's cultural hub.

Reinventing Books in Chinese Contemporary Art

Giants of the Chinese contemporary art scene, such as Xu Bing and Cai Guo-Qiang, are in this exploration of the importance of the book as an art form in post-Mao China.

Visiting Artists
For One Way or Another: Asian American Art Now, the Academy will bring artists Michael Arcega, Geraldine Lau, Jean Shin and Mika Tajima to Honolulu to install their works, beginning June 10. Shin is involving the local art community by soliciting sweaters from Asian-American artists, and working with a group of local artists and students selected by the Academy to install her work "Unraveling." The artists' visit is made possible by a grant from the Laila Twigg-Smith Art Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation.
